Hi, I posted this paper in June 2019 so that it would be available at the 2019 Socialist Conference. It is a revised version of a first draft that I sent out to about a dozen people in May 2018. Daniel Lazare and Max Elbaum sent me some comments on the first draft, so the final paper includes expanded commentary on their books as well as a new conclusion assessing the significance of Bernie Sanders’ campaign for President.
